How Hip Flexors Can Help Your Flexibility
By
Flexibility is important to people of all ages and sizes. Athletes and anyone else can highly benefit from increased flexibility. It is important to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.
Among the major muscle groups important to flexibility, few are more important than the hip flexors. The hip flexors are a group of muscles that attaches the legs to the trunk. Basically, almost every movement we make in a physical setting utilizes the hip flexors in some way. Concentrating on the hip flexors and seeking to strengthen and stretch this muscle group will greatly help your overall flexibility. A few simple stretches can accomplish this.
Anyone, especially beginners can benefit from this first stretch. Simply place one foot forward in a lunge position and place your hands on your out-stretched knee. Extend your hips forward to stretch the hip flexors and hold for around 20 seconds. Repeating this will help.
A more advanced hip flexor stretch involves similar motions. Perform the same hip thrust forward and down toward the lunging leg, only this time do it with your hands and arms in the air. Again, hold this stretch for around 20 seconds and repeat with the opposite leg. This will concentrate heavily on the hip flexors and greatly increase flexibility.
